What is Ghyllscrambling?

‘Ghyll’ comes from a nordic viking word meaning mountain stream.

Ghyllscrambling, sometimes described as Canyoning outside of the Lake District, (the terms can be used interchangeably) is working your way either up or down a river or gorge.

Using a variety of techniques including jumps into plunge pools, natural rock slides, scrambling, swimming and using ropes and abseiling.

It’s is the ultimate way to see beautiful scenery from a different viewpoint. Some parts would other wise be impossible without using ropes to descend into hidden places.
